food for president

Seems like all we see on TV these days is news about the upcoming presidential elections. This person did this, this person said that, this person dropped out of the race. It’s all exhausting especially because when it’s over, I’m not too sure there will be a “bright light” for us to really see and experience. When you need a break from all the hype, there’s one place you can go to get connected to our Nation’s roots: George and Martha’s in Morristown.

This past week happened to be restaurant week in Morristown. A friend and I had plans to go to a specific restaurant for one of their prix fixe dinner specials. That plan went down the drain when I saw the bright sign for “George and Martha’s”. I had told my friend that next time I wanted to go there and she suggested we go there this time instead! I voted-YES! Because first off, this place looked adorable even from the outside. After going inside, there are light bulbs to decorate the walls, comfortable chairs (like the ones in your living room), and there’s a section for the bar as well as for the restaurant. It has a great vibe and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly.

After sitting down and being very excited to try this place, a waiter brought a delicious looking drink to a table near by. As soon as the waiter, passed our way again, my always outspoken (in a good way) friend asked, “WHAT WAS THAT??” The waiter directed us to their drink menu and their signature fishbowls. We voted- YES to the Singapore Sling, an old fashioned, fancy cocktail made with gin. Although undeniably large, it’s a great way to split a drink with a friend. The fishbowl in total is actually about four cocktails. So instead of buying 4 cocktails separately which would have added up, my friend and I split this one for $25 and it worked out just perfectly. Again, it does seem like alot but when you nurse it and you have food on top of it all-it’s all good.

Now, we needed something in our system. After seeing all of the options and what they had to offer, we voted-YES to the blue cheese spinach fondue with homemade potato chips. This dish made so many promises, it was difficult to say no.

G&M spinach dip

The dip is creamy and loaded with spinach and topped with bleu cheese. It’s a slightly different taste from your typical spinach dip but it sure does its delicious job. The potato chips are slightly thicker than usual and lightly salted. These two items complement each other with a nice crunch to deliver the smooth texture of the dip.

Apparently, we were in the mood to share. After all, sharing is caring, isn’t it? So we split a salmon entree with vegetables and sweet potato fries.

G&M salmon

The salmon was wrapped in a paper thin dough which added crunch to an overall flaky, melt-in-your-mouth salmon. It was drizzled with spinach pesto sauce which was enough to give the salmon a little extra flavor. On the side, sweet potato fries, because you can never go wrong with those- lightly salted, crunchy, and soft in the middle. Perfect.

Finally, there’s one more thing I have a hard time resisting and that is macaroni and cheese. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it is my ultimate favorite food. Since we were splitting an entree, we decided that it would definitely be okay to split the mac and cheese. YES!

G&M mac and cheese

Seriously though? THIS WAS AMAZING. The tiny elbows were cooked to perfection. They held all of the creamy, cheesy goodness that surrounded it. Each bite was filled with perfection. It was slightly crunchy on top and gooey and warm all throughout. I’m so glad that we reaped the benefits of the votes for the night.

The dessert menu also looked amazing- chocolate chip cookies and milk, chocolate mousse. Fortunately and unfortunately, the meal was so good and so filling that we didn’t have enough room to fit anything else into our stomachs. So now, I want to go back!

Why can’t the actual presidential election be as easy as this? The menu tells you all of your options and what each of the food stands for in clear as day, bullet point writing. You vote for what you want and no matter what, you’re typically happy. So, I vote for food for president-always. Anyone with me?
