the eggstravagant burger

This, my friends, is off the charts insane. I don’t know what came over me on this particular morning. I  mean, clearly, I don’t always eat the healthiest of things but I typically would never have gone this far. But I did. And I have no regrets.

The Committed Pig in Morristown is really the cutest place for breakfast and brunch. It’s small with a homey feel. On a Sunday, it’s important to get to this place early if you don’t want to wait on a long line.

Except, it’s  worth the wait so you should just go anyway no matter the time.

Anyway, first comes coffee. Not just a cup of coffee but a huge thermos of coffee given to you so that you can refill your cup as often as you’d like. I know you’re thinking, “That probably doesn’t stay fresh or hot”. But it does and it’s an awesome way to avoid the whole “wait for your waitress to come refill your cup” ordeal.

After sitting at the table for at least 10 minutes debating what to have for breakfast…

(eggs? cookie dough pancakes? crunchy french toast? egg quesadilla? pork roll sandwich? fig and brie grilled cheese? or …a burger?)

…I finally decided to go with the “good morning burger“.  All of their burgers are made with hanger steak, brisket blend, and short rib meat on a potato roll. The breakfast burger was also then topped with gruyere cheese, egg, and pork roll. I guess you could say that the egg and pork roll made me feel less guilty for ordering a burger at 9am. Hey man, whatever works. Although the main meal was quite a tough decision, the waitress made it extremely easy to pick a side. Since I’m not actually having a waffle, sweet potato waffle fries it is! See, that’s kind of a breakfast food too! Right???

My meal came out looking like perfection. Sweet potato waffle fries piled high, a perfectly sized burger to fit a soft potato roll and a pickle on the side. And then something happened… I put the top of the roll on my burger and I cut the burger in half.

This glorious disaster was mouthwatering, salty, crunchy from the charred burger, buttery from the oozing egg, melty, and all held together on a puffy potato cloud. There was no neat way to eat this. It was hard to put it down because you know if you did that you’d have to pull it all together again. The best part was that you didn’t actually WANT to put it down because it was SO GOOD. The fries were hot upon delivery and super crunchy and crispy on the outside. Of course they were a little bit sweet which is what is so great about sweet potatoes. I had alot of extra fries that I actually took home and reheated later on and they were just as good. My mouth is watering thinking about this now. Thank God this place isn’t closer to my house.

This was definitely a meal that kept me full for the entire day. Okay, maybe you could have a bowl of cereal for dinner or something but it’s worth all the full feelings that follow when you finish.

I’m not sure I’ve ever had anything as eggstravagant as this and it’s definitely going to take alot to top it.
