the eggstravagant burger

This, my friends, is off the charts insane. I don’t know what came over me on this particular morning. I  mean, clearly, I don’t always eat the healthiest of things but I typically would never have gone this far. But I did. And I have no regrets.

The Committed Pig in Morristown is really the cutest place for breakfast and brunch. It’s small with a homey feel. On a Sunday, it’s important to get to this place early if you don’t want to wait on a long line.

Except, it’s  worth the wait so you should just go anyway no matter the time.

Anyway, first comes coffee. Not just a cup of coffee but a huge thermos of coffee given to you so that you can refill your cup as often as you’d like. I know you’re thinking, “That probably doesn’t stay fresh or hot”. But it does and it’s an awesome way to avoid the whole “wait for your waitress to come refill your cup” ordeal.

hit the board running

cheese board

When this hits your table, you dive right in with enthusiasm! This beautiful display includes thinly sliced bread drizzled with olive oil and black pepper. Down the center, the board is a piece of parmesan, brie, and blue cheese. Along the sides of the cheese is a smear of mustard and pepper jam. The furtherest away in the picture are spicy cashews and tiny chopped pieces of bacon.  Continue reading “hit the board running”

who’s the tastiest of them all?

Let the weekend begin!

It’s October, the weather is crisp, the pools have closed, the watermelon supply has dwindled, so what now?

Apple picking!

Heading over the Battleview Orchards in Freehold, NJ is definitely a great way to spend the weekend with your family and/or friends. I recommend waking up early and heading over to the country store to try and beat the crowds. Except, I’m not sure you can ever really “beat” them, because there is ALWAYS a long, almost endless line for their freshly baked cider doughnuts (and a variety of other fresh fruits, vegetables, cider, pies, etc). I’ve had these many, many times over my life time and they are definitely worth the early morning alarm waking you from your slumber.

But that’s not what I’m here to talk about today. Today, I’m here to focus on something HEALTHY! Yes my friends, contrary to what you may believe, I actually do try to watch what I eat on a daily basis. Apples are a really great, guiltless, sweet treat. Apples contain antioxidants that helps to prevent certain diseases, fiber that keeps you full and helps you control your weight, and it can also help whiten your teeth! (Saliva production reduces tooth decay and the production of bacteria).

After you visit the country store, head over to the enchanted apple trees for some “Pick Your Own” apples (and pumpkins in the field)! The trees seem like they go on for years and years so be careful and make sure you’re picking the most delicious, tastiest, sweetest, most crisp, apple of them all.

meal for a deal

“Want to go to that 1000 degrees pizza place for lunch?” Of course I replied with a “Heck yes”! Can anyone ever really turn down pizza? I know I can’t. Even when I smell pizza in my surrounding area, the cravings just consume my every sense.  Continue reading “meal for a deal”

donut judge me

August 20, 2015

I’m back at it. Donuts.  I know you’re probably thinking “You just started, you can’t duplicate food yet”. Well, I just did and you’ll be thankful.

ps: Don’t judge me for eating so many donuts. I’m just trying to enjoy my life.

I’ve only been tagged in one photo on my Instagram account (shutupandeatwithme_nj) for this blog since I started about two months ago. The photo is a beautiful picture from Dana’s Desserts of Montclair Bread Company’s Donuts. Boy am I glad she tagged me in this picture. Even just looking at it now sends sugar cravings throughout my brain. I knew I wanted to try these donuts and I finally got the opportunity.

wrap battle: round 2

August 18, 2015

Ding ding ding! It’s round two of the wrap battle. The winner of round one, Super Duper Deli’s breakfast wrap (wrap battle: round 1), satisfies my breakfast cravings every time I indulge with it. For lunch, I love to head over to Metuchen Fresco’s Italian Deli and Catering. Continue reading “wrap battle: round 2”

like totally, pho sure

August 16, 2015

Here’s when I get deep. Life has some crazy twists and turns and no matter how much you plan and plan, life never goes exactly the way that you thought and looking back-this is such an awesome thing. I’m sure you’re thinking “What the heck does she know about life?” Well, it might not be alot but of this I am convinced: everything happens for a reason. When I graduated college, I wanted my first teaching job more than I want any of this awesome food that I talk about. (Hard to believe) I searched and searched and went on so many interviews and teaching demo lessons, only to be let down. BUT THEN! I was hired as a long-term sub in Clifton. Aside from all the teacher-y things I learned while working for Clifton, I made a really good friend. Enter my foodie friend-Lee.

I only worked with Lee for a year but I truly believe that I was denied other teaching jobs so that she could come into my life. I may not see her often, we may not talk everyday but we still just get each other in so many ways. For that, I’m extremely grateful that I didn’t get my “ideal” job my first year out of college. If I did, I’d never have this experience to share with you. Five years later, I was hired for a job that I went on an interview for the year before. Weird how it worked out at exactly the right time.

So I contact my foodie friend Lee so that we can try something new. I know that she will be down to try just about whatever and she knows of some good places in her area. Vietnamese here we come! I had never had Vietnamese food and boy was I missing out.

After some girl talk and playing with her most amazing dog Tucker, we ventured out to Binh Duong Restaurant. She had been wanting to try Pho this summer and read some good reviews about this place. When we sat at our table we did the look around to see what other people had ordered. We weren’t sure what was good but she had read about their spring rolls and pho. So what did we order? The pork spring rolls, pho, and … coconut juice. Continue reading “like totally, pho sure”

croissanting my mind

July 27, 2015

On Sunday morning, I woke up and I thought “I really want a spinach and feta croissant from the Stockton Market”. Is that normal? Do people really crave these indulgent foods at 8:00am in the morning? Now, I had no plans to drive the forty minutes over to this market but it was nice to fantasize. I continue on with my normal weekend routine, getting up early and going to the gym. I mean, I have to go to the gym with all of this food that I’m eating! After the gym, I called up my mom because I had this inkling, this feeling, this gut feeling that she had gone to Stockton Market that morning. I’m not saying I’m psychic or anything but I think I might be psychic. After some casual chit-chat, she told me that she and my dad went to the Stockton Market and she picked me up a spinach and feta croissant!! Do parents get any better? No, I really don’t think so.

So, after the gym, I drive home. I try to control myself, act casual. I explore what’s around the house, see what else my parents bought from the market.

Beets
Beets

Like these beets. Look at those babies. Is that for real??

But then I locate THE bag. The bag from the Crossroads Bakery table at the Stockton Market. The bag that holds all the fresh pastries that my parents have purchased. The bag that holds my spinach and feta croissant. The bag that holds my happiness.

Oh I think “I’ll just have a piece and have the rest tomorrow”. So, I cut a piece.

Crossroads Bakery Spinach and Feta Croissant
Crossroads Bakery Spinach and Feta Croissant

The croissant is flakey, buttery, chewy but also crunchy on the top. Inside, is the perfect about of spinach and feta. You can actually see the chunks of feta which makes me very happy. The croissant is completely savory. Who am I kidding? Cutting myself a piece is a joke. I ate the whole thing and I loved every bite. The spinach and feta croissant started as a fantasy, became a reality, and now it’s a memory. Until next time!

This is my favorite food item to get when visiting the Stockton Market. However, I’ve had fresh juice, salsa, bone broth, all sorts of lavender products, pulled BBQ chicken all which top the charts. All which knock it out of the park for me. So it’s worth heading over. Plus afterwards (or before), you could walk or ride your bike along the Delaware River. It’s the perfect thing to do on a beautiful Sunday.

worth sacrifrying your diet

July 22, 2015

I’m really not a red meat eater. For whatever reason, it has never really appealed to me, so for me to say that this burger is worth sacrifrying your diet for, is a BOLD statement. Now I know that technically Shake Shack is a “chain” restaurant, but it has so few locations that you really have to drive a distance to get to one unlike other fast food locations that are on every corner. In New Jersey, there are only three locations, Bridgewater, Garden State Plaza, and Paramus.

Also unlike other burger places, Shake Shack’s uses ingredients that are made from 100% all-natural Angus beef that are vegetarian fed and humanely raised. There are no hormones or antibiotics, thank goodness because I have enough of those myself.   Continue reading “worth sacrifrying your diet”

a sandwich in the rough

July 20, 2015

Sometimes you just want a good sandwich. Yes, you could go to your local grocer and get whatever ingredients you want and build your own masterpiece but what’s the fun in the that? There’s plenty of good sub spots in New Jersey but what about a different kind of sandwich; something creative, something different, something tasty. You could go to a plethora of places and get your basic italian or turkey and cheese sub and you could definitely go to Legends Deli in Milltown, NJ and get the same thing, or you could get something a little bit different.
